Trauma-Informed
Psychiatric Mental Health Assessments, Diagnosis & Treatment

Thoughtful, comprehensive (and affordable) Mental Health Assessments ... without the long wait.

Day, Evening,Weekend appointments

At Making Space Psychotherapy we are known for our specialization in trauma and relationships, and the deeper, more nuanced way we work with our clients as complex and unique humans.

We now offer trauma-informed psychiatric mental health assessments in Hamilton (and across Ontario) with an experienced, independent Nurse Practitioner. This service is for adults, teens and children 10+

Our assessments are designed to look beyond symptoms alone and better understand the full picture of your experiences, history, nervous system, patterns, and mental health concerns.

We know that many people spend years trying to understand what is actually going on beneath the surface ... whether that is trauma, ADHD, anxiety, OCD, burnout, nervous system dysregulation, dissociation, mood concerns, or overlapping patterns that can sometimes look similar.

Our goal is to provide thoughtful diagnostic clarification, meaningful recommendations, and full support on your path forward.

Areas We Commonly Assess include...

  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Diagnostic clarification and overlapping presentations

  • Trauma and Complex Trauma

  • Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD/C-PTSD)

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Mood Disorder

  • Dissociation

  • Disordered eating patterns

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Substance use concerns

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Emotional overwhelm and burnout

  • Relationship and attachment-related patterns

A Trauma-Informed Approach

Many mental health symptoms can overlap: for example, trauma can sometimes look like ADHD; Anxiety can be connected to nervous system dysregulation; and dissociation, chronic stress, burnout, attachment wounds, or neurodivergence can all impact how someone experiences daily life.

Our assessments take a deeper and more nuanced approach by considering:

  • your history and lived experiences

  • your nervous system and stress responses

  • trauma and attachment patterns

  • emotional and relational functioning

  • current symptoms and challenges

  • strengths, coping patterns, and supports

We believe meaningful assessment should help you feel more understood!
