Working with me.
I am a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist specializing in PTSD/C-PTSD, anxiety disorders, abuse and sexual violence recovery, self esteem, identity, and relationship issues. I also devote a portion of my practice to working with gender-based violence survivors and First Responders.
Sometimes it can feel like you're caught swinging between being anxiously “on guard” and wanting to just crawl back into bed. The yo-yo is exhausting ... and then you beat yourself up for not acting like the person you know yourself to truly be.
In therapy we will work on how to feel safer, calmer and more in control in your body and mind. It’s also a place to bring those big feelings and memories you’re not sure what to do with. Together (and at your pace) we can gently explore so you can process and let go of what you’re holding onto. Before you know it more space will open in your life for connection and calm.
As my client, I hope you will feel understood and like you’ve got someone in your corner. My approach is validating, curious, and compassionate. I know from experience how vulnerable and scary it can be to open up in therapy. It can be so hard to trust, so I strive to be worthy of being leaned on, and also of challenging you when it’s needed.
I have worked with many different populations with various mental health concerns. I have had the honour of working with many women-identifying individuals who survived abuse or violence. Before becoming a therapist I worked at a women and children’s emergency shelter, so this work is close to my heart and is where my passion for trauma work comes from.
There are many different paths toward growth, and my work honours that. Together, we can focus on what you need most in the moment. This may look like building a deeper understanding of your body’s sensations, gently re-examining old stories about yourself or your relationships, receiving practical support to create a plan, or finding ways to accept and move forward from what cannot be changed.
No matter what, we will always be moving towards your goals so you get the most out of therapy. I also believe knowledge is power, so I will share all I can about the brain, nervous system, and trauma that you may find helpful. There’s no gatekeeping here!
Let's begin where you are!
Beyond my work.
I am a mom to a toddler, so I spend most of my free time these days either playing with him, serving him, or sleeping (parents, I see you!). I follow the news, which I feel is essential in order to understand mental health these days. I love movies, stand up comedy, and cultural criticism. I also like to cook, garden, thrift shop, and explore beautiful rustbelt cities like Detroit and Buffalo.
