Working with me.
I am a psychotherapist in Hamilton who specializes in anxiety, trauma, and dissociation. This can include an emphasis on safety, insight, and emotional regulation.
You may feel trapped in cycles of panic, dissociation, anxiety and self-doubt that feel difficult to break. I believe it's important for me to meet you where you are at and to pay attention to what feels most helpful for you. The goal is never to “fix” your difficult thoughts or feelings, but for you to relate to yourself in a different and more compassionate way.
I use trauma-informed approaches such as EMDR, DBT and ACT to help you process difficult experiences, build coping skills, and reconnect with yourself in a kinder and more grounded way. I will support you to create more space inside for your internal experiences, while gently moving toward what feels meaningful and true for you.
With EMDR, I can support you to gently processing experience that feel stuck or overwhelming, without needing to go into every detail. I believe in working in a way that also considers the body and nervous system, helping memories and experiences feel less intense and more manageable in the present.
A big part of my work involves helping you to step out of the struggle with your thoughts and feelings. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) we can focus on creating space for internal experiences so you can also get clearer on what matters most to you, and to find ways to move in that direction (even when things feel difficult).
When things feel emotionally intense or hard to manage, I often draw from DBT to support you to build practical skills you can use in real time. This can include tools for grounding, managing distress, and navigating relationships in a way that feels more steady and supported.
Welcome! I look forward to connecting.
Beyond my work.
I really value time with family and friends and try to stay grounded in the things I enjoy day to day. I love cooking, spending time with my golden retriever, and I also tutor college and university students in psychology, which is something I genuinely enjoy and find really meaningful in a different but connected way.
