Working with me.
Hello! I am a Registered Psychotherapist in Hamilton. I specialize in complex trauma, C-PTSD, Neurodivergence (ADHD and Autism), LGBTQ2+, the Parent/Child Relationship, Behavioural difficulties, and challenges related to Post-Partum.
My approach to therapy is highly collaborative. I believe that you have the tools within you to heal yourself. A spirit of playfulness, creativity and curiosity is an important part of what I bring to my practice. In therapy sessions, I will share these qualities with you as we find a path forward.
Sometimes you may feel lost or stuck and like you are struggling to know who you really are. I can support you to connect with all of who you are so that you may feel more grounded in who you are as a person -- more fully alive and present in your life.
Together, we can explore the different parts of you -- the emotions, body sensations and thoughts that shape how you move through the world. Through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens we can get curious about these parts rather than fighting them, helping you build self-compassion, confidence and resilience. If you or your child struggle with big feelings or impulsivity we’ll develop practical tools for emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
I also incorporate Therapeutic Presence: a slow-paced, here-and-now approach where we deepen awareness of sounds, colours and sensations to connect more fully with mind and body. Sometimes this includes playful vocal humming or song to support grounding and ease.
Alongside IFS, I weave in mindfulness, music and Narrative Therapy to help externalize challenges -- especially with children, who may engage through art, movement or a “worry monster” character. With adults, teens and parents, I integrate CBT techniques to explore thought patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs and build new skills.
My work with parents is informed by attachment theory and my knowledge of child development.
I take a trauma-informed approach and, in addition to other approaches, I use trauma-focussed CBT to help clients to work through trauma in a three phase approach involving stabilization and skill-building, trauma narration and processing, as well as integration and consolidation.
I have worked in various settings including child in-patient psychiatry, for the ministry of education, in community mental health and in a music therapy clinic. Prior to becoming a social worker and psychotherapist, I worked primarily with neurodivergent children as a music therapist and as a specialized music educator. Principles of social justice deeply inform my psychotherapy practice. I have spent over a decade working within grassroots social movements and community organizations.
No matter where we begin, our work centres on helping you understand yourself from the inside out -- so your parts feel seen, supported and no longer alone.
Welcome to this space. Let’s see what unfolds!
Beyond my work.
In my spare time I enjoy walks in the forest with my rescue dog, gardening, singing in a choir, and playing various instruments including flute, guitar and piano.
