Men's Therapy
For Healing and Happiness on Your Own Terms
At Making Space Psychotherapy, we understand that healing from trauma and navigating emotional challenges can feel overwhelming, especially if you have been taught to push through, stay tough or to go it alone.
Whether you are dealing with stress, past wounds or strained relationships you deserve a space where you're met with respect, not judgment.
We specialize in trauma therapy and relationship therapy for men in Hamilton, Burlington (and across Ontario).
Our team includes experienced men’s therapy specialists who can support you through a range of struggles: childhood trauma, sexual harm, anxiety, identity concerns, porn or sex addiction, depression, family issues, and more.

Why Men's Therapy?
Many men come to therapy feeling stuck, angry, disconnected, or just “off". Maybe you’re not sure what’s wrong, but you can feel that something is weighing you down. It could be the pressure to perform, old patterns that keep playing out or wounds from childhood that never quite healed. Men’s therapy creates a space where you can safely explore what’s happening beneath the surface.
There’s no need to have it all figured out before coming in. We’ll meet you wherever you’re at with curiosity, compassion and the tools to help you move forward.

How We Work: Men's Trauma Therapy Tailored for You
We use evidence-based, compassionate approaches that work for how men often process pain, especially if verbalizing feelings doesn't come easily.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
If talking about your trauma feels too intense or unclear, EMDR can be a more structured and less confronting way to begin. EMDR helps you reprocess traumatic experiences so you can reduce distress and emotional overwhelm.
For men who struggle to find the words for what they’ve been through, or who tend to shut down in therapy, EMDR offers a powerful path forward. You don’t need to explain everything in detail to experience relief.
IFS (Internal Family Systems)
IFS therapy makes space for healing without shame or pressure. Instead of pushing away parts of yourself -- like the angry one, the anxious one, or the part that feels lost -- we get to know them with curiosity and care.

IFS can be especially helpful for men who feel like they're constantly at war with themselves. If you’re carrying inner conflict, feeling emotionally blocked, or unsure how to start, IFS offers a clear, compassionate way in. It’s not about “fixing” you. It's actually about self-acceptance and peace inside, and the best part is you don't have to feel as though you have to change who you are. It’s about helping you reconnect to the parts of yourself that need care and compassion so that healing can happen from the inside out.
Somatic Therapy
Not everything can be talked out. Trauma often lives in the body, showing up as tightness, restlessness, chronic pain, or a sense of being on edge. That’s where somatic therapy comes in.
Somatic therapy focuses on bodily awareness, helping you connect to how trauma has shaped your nervous system and how to release it for deeper healing. You will learn practical tools to feel more grounded, present and at ease in your body.
Core aspects of somatic therapy for men include:
-
Understanding the body’s role in trauma
-
Releasing tension and physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tightness, or sleep issues
-
Regulating the nervous system and shifting out of fight-or-flight
-
Building emotional regulation and reducing reactivity
-
Deepening communication and connection in relationships
-
Using tools like breathwork, movement, and guided awareness
Somatic therapy helps you move through trauma, not just think about it. For men with PTSD, chronic stress, or trauma stored in the body this approach can create real change even if words are hard to come by.

What to Expect in Men’s Therapy
You don’t have to perform here. You don’t need to pretend you’re fine, or worry about being judged. Your therapist will meet you with respect, warmth, and skill and work at your pace.
Whether you want to talk through something specific or just know you’re not feeling like yourself, we’ll start there. Therapy for men isn’t about digging through everything all at once ... it’s about building trust, finding stability, and healing in a way that fits who you are.
We use a mix of trauma-informed approaches and relationship therapy strategies, depending on what feels right for you. Some sessions might focus on understanding your past. Others might build tools for managing the here-and-now. You’re in the driver’s seat, and we’re here to support you the whole way.
